Course Introduction
Clinical Placement, also referred to as Worksite Experience, Clinical Externship, or Practicum Placement, is a critical training component for students in any healthcare services program. This is the period of time when students are placed in a real workplace environment and given a chance to apply some of the skills learned during the program.
Course Prerequisites
Prior to starting the Clinical Placement, students must successfully complete all ILS and medical courses within the Medical Office Assistant program, in addition to adhering to all policies outlined in the Clinical Placement Meeting.
Course Notes
Course manual is provided for on-going reference. There is a final exam upon completion of the course. Participants who receive 75% or higher on their exam will receive a certificate.

Course Aim: Students participating in a Clinical Placement will experience some or all of the following: Direct supervision from your Clinical Placement Preceptor or Host, with daily direction of tasks, Direct exposure to the daily operations of a medical office environment, The arena necessary to begin the process of transferring newly learned knowledge into a practical environment, Practice in communicating with other healthcare facilities and medical offices, Participation in and observation of hands-on medical administrative tasks, The opportunity to demonstrate their skills based on both technical and employability skills in the healthcare industry, Support from the Healthcare Division.

Of interest to: This course is of interest to individuals actively pursuing healthcare-related training as part of their life-long career journey. It is designed to provide the opportunity for students to develop the skills required to offer administrative support within the medical industry.
Method of Delivery: A Clinical Placement requires 160 hours, approximately 4 weeks in duration, of relevant in-field experience.
