After 39 years of service in the Canadian forces, Retired Lieutenant Colonel David Mason decided he was not done yet. Quickly realizing he wasn’t ready to retire, the 57-year-old decided it was time for him to improve on his résumé as an aerospace engineer, with a focus on business and office skills.
“With the help of a Vocational Counsellor, I found the Academy of Learning in Ottawa – an easy daily commute. I chose a 28-week course in business office skills including the full Microsoft Office suite.
“By completing the program, I was able to secure a part-time, civilian role with the Department of National Defense and I’m looking forward to applying my new skill set. What I appreciated the most about my learning experience with Academy of Learning was the excellent multi-dimensional syllabus allowing independent, self-paced completion. The individual support within a flexible schedule also gave me the freedom to plan and satisfy my own personal demands.
“The staff were extremely professional and competent, showing they cared about making my learning experience positive and enjoyable. Having 39 years of service to Canada, I didn’t think there was much more I could learn but my experience at the Academy of Learning has taught me that learning is a lifelong activity.”
